Bangladesh batsman Soumya Sarkar said that he is ok with quarantine if there is cricket around. Notably, he has started his training recently.
"It was bad considering there was no game but apart from that, it was good[ time at home due to corona]. Initially, it was frustrating but later managed it. I think quarantine was good if there was cricket," Soumya said on Thursday.
Soumya added that they need to follow health protocols strictly in order to avoid corona impact on their lives. Bangladesh is going to Sri Lanka on September 23 for the upcoming series while they are expected to play their opening Test on October 24.
During the time frame, the tourist will need to follow strict health protocols like they will have to do the corona tests before leaving the country as well as after reaching the island. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to host a residential camp for the national team players who might be featured in Bangladesh’s upcoming tour to Sri Lanka.
The tour was originally scheduled to take place in July-August, but due to COVID-19 situation, the tour was postponed. Both the boards are in discussion to play the series in coming months.
Currently, almost all of the national players have been training alone throughout the country under BCB’s health safety protocol as well.
"Safety is a big issue because our team is like a family. We have to be safe and remain in quarantine. We have to abide by all the rules and I think it will be good. Because if anyone sustains it than it will transmit to others," said Soumya, adding that he is relieved that cricket has eventually begun after a long layoff.
"It is relieving that the game is about to start. I used to feel bad when I saw games of England. Yesterday learnt that the tour is confirmed and it really felt well," he said.
Soumya added that he is confident Tigers will have enough time to prepare for the series while added that he wants to start from where he left.
"If we go one month before the series we will have enough time to prepare as everyone will be practising. We have to work as a team," said Soumya. "Last time I played in T20 against Zimbabwe and did reasonably well and want to start from where I left off."
"There is no point just playing because we need to perform and we have to give our hundred per cent," he concluded.
