Bangladeshi star cricketers might have to bear huge loss if the Dhaka Premier League, country’s traditional club-based 50-over tournament, do not resume this season as clubs are expected to pay them on match by match basis, unlike the past.
Cricketers raised their voice against ‘players by choice system’ that was followed in the previous years for players transfer and insisted BCB to bring back the old format players transfer system based on the mutual discussions between cricketers and the clubs of open choice between players and clubs from this season during the 13-points demand in October2019.
BCB approved it and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League players’ transfer returns to the old format but unlike the past there is slight change in the agreement paper that suggest that star players will be paid according to the number of games they played for the clubs.
In the notice of the CCDM on the eve of the transfer, the star players who will participate in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 19-20 will have their remuneration on pro-rata basis and this condition benefited the clubs in their open transfer.
According to officials, this clause is included for star cricketers as they were expected to be unavailable during the league to take part in the tour of Pakistan that was later postponed.
"The board can call players for the national team at any time. During the league if it happens then the club will be suffer from it. So considering the clubs position, we made this decision that players will be contracted on match basis,’’ CCDM member secretary Ali Hossain stated this logic behind implementing this law.
Ali Hossain said that 11 match of the first round and five match of the Super League, in total 16 match are under this contract. Then the player will be depreciated if their club doesn't qualify for the Super League.
This way, star players will be deprived of the possibility of big earning from the DPL.
If the Corona situation is delayed to normal, and if the BCB emphasizes the implementation of the international cricket team's schedule, then the clubs will have to play the league without their star cricketers.
Mushfiqur got contracted with Abahani Limited for a record Taka 65 lakh but will get four lakh six thousand 250 Taka as he played only one match before the league was postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.
