Manager A.J. Hinch told reporters he hopes to get the righty into a game sometime this weekend in the team's series against the Angels.
Pressly, 30, has not pitched in a game since Aug. 20 and has been dealing with knee issues for the better part of a few months.
He first was given a break in July after he gave up a home run in a game against the Cardinals and complained of the lingering knee pain. Before that, Pressly was one of the best relievers in MLB posting a 2.50 ERA in 51 appearances. He started the year hot not allowing a run in his first 19 appearances.
While Pressly has taken a step back since those games, he remains Houston's most reliable late-inning arm and with Will Harris and Roberto Osuna toward the back end of the bullpen, the Astros have one of the toughest pens to deal with in the majors.
Houston holds the best record in MLB at 100-53 entering Friday.
The Astros have a half-game lead over the Yankees for home-field advantage in the American League playoffs.
